Engineering Expertise

Composites Horizons (CHI) has a robust and diverse engineering staff who provide engineering solutions to a broad customer base that includes GE Aviation, Pratt & Whitney, Boeing, Honeywell and more. We offer tool design expertise for thermoset and thermoplastic applications as well as resin transfer molding. Engineering works as a key part of our customer-integrated product teams (IPT) in the role of fabrication and tooling experts. We provide solutions for material selection, process development and process control, secondary bonding and processing, NDT and evaluation techniques, and final assembly for composite designs. CAD and modeling using CATIA and UG platforms for the design of product and tooling are also part of our standard tools and expertise.

In support of our production operations, CHI has Manufacturing Engineers (ME’s) skilled in RC/CA and troubleshooting. They oversee production programs to assure cost targets are met. MEs’ review shop floor activity daily and assure tooling and processes are performing according to plan. MEs maintain the MRB process and make process improvements and support continuous improvement practices.

Proprietary Development

CHI has engineering resources and capacity to support customer research and development. Our unique tooling approaches allow us to meet critical dimensional and fiber architecture requirements in critical flange radii for integral flanged ducts.

Additional Quality Control

The CHI Quality Assurance organization maintains a rigorous testing and monitoring system approved by all major aircraft engine manufacturers.

Dimensional test data is collected automatically and downloaded to a Quantum SPC system.
CMM data collection is supported by state-of-the–art portable and gantry CMM test equipment.
The Quality Engineering and Inspection team is highly trained, skilled and experienced in all aspects of dimensional testing.

Program Management

CHI has installed a new program management office, staffed with a team having a combined level of experience of over 100 years in the Aerospace Industry. The office blends a variety of expertise and backgrounds in its leadership to provide an unbeatable approach to effectively manage all current and future programs.

  • – Communication and leadership skills to provide the tools to lead our programs as the single point of contact for our external customers and internal disciplines.
  • – Program management expertise to lead engineering, operations, quality and business management groups for horizontal integration of each program.
  • – Manage program requirements—on-schedule and within budget.
  • – Develop and maintain open communications with all program customers and internal senior management.
  • – Identify, develop and pursue new business initiatives with current customers and coordinate with internal senior management.
  • – Mitigate program issues utilizing risk management processes.

Quality Accreditation

ISO 9001 Approved

International Standards Authority (ISA) has registered CHI to ISO 9001. This all-inclusive quality standard has since become a basic quality system for all high-quality manufacturers. We are currently certified to the latest version, ISO 9001:2008. CHI has been a registered ISO 9001 supplier since 1999.

AS9100 Approved

CHI was among the first to be certified to AS9100, the upgraded aerospace version of ISO 9001. Audits by ISA and aerospace manufacturers have confirmed our current compliance to this augmented set of requirements. We also maintain an FAA Repair Station and an FAA-approved Repair Station Manual.

Nadcap AC7118 Approved

thump2In accordance with (SAE) Aerospace standard AS7003 this certificate was granted and awarded to CHI. This certificate demonstrates conformance and recognition of accreditation for specific services, to the revision in effect at the time of the audit for composites.
